Walker Run 2012: Still Living for Today
It’s been just over a year since Sara Walker was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer at the age of 33, and the grace, faith and candor with which she has lived her days this year has impacted everyone who has come in contact with her. With a CaringBridge journal that has a following of over 430,000 people; Sara Walker is bringing a message of faith, hope and today-minded living throughout her hard-fought battle with colon cancer. Join us at 7:30am on April 14, 2012 at Brentwood High School to continue supporting Sara in her fight. Visit http://thewalkerrun.weebly.com/for more information and online registration.

Walker Run History Born out of desire to show support to Sara, the Belmont Physical Therapy Class of 2003 organized the first annual Walker Run, Live for Today in April 2011. Through this, nearly 1,000 people joined together to raise $30,000 for the Walker family. These contributions have allowed family memories to be made and provided added security while Sara has been unable to work. But, more than that, knowing that over 1,000 people took the time “to show their abounding love and support” was the bigger gift to Sara.

Sara’s Story Sara Walker was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in an unrelated medical test just four weeks after the sudden, full-term still birth of her daughter Anna in December 2010. Since then, in what has become known as her “Victory Plan", Sara has completed 16 rounds of chemotherapy, two rounds of vectibix and is currently enrolled in a promising clinical trial at Sarah Cannon Research Institute. Sara is married to Brian Walker and is the mother of two boys (ages six and four). Please visit Sara’s CaringBridge page for more information on her journey: www.caringbridge.org/visit/sarawalker.

While Sara and Brian have expressed their thankfulness to us in our desire to host this race for the second year, they have asked for all potential donors to understand how their money will be used. Just as last year, the utilization of all proceeds from this event will fall under the full discretion of the Walker family.
