Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14

For a moment, imagine that you are in the Brentwood Hills Main Auditorium.

Look around at all the pews on the lower level of this auditorium. Imagine that almost every one of them is filled with children. Scattered throughout that large multitude of children you’ll also see a number of adults and older teens who are there to assist the children, but the overwhelming majority of the audience filling the auditorium is made up of children who are elementary age or younger.

These young children you are visualizing are filled with abundant energy and enthusiasm – and you can literally feel the excitement in the air. Furthermore, the young boys and girls surrounding you are of all different ages and come from many different backgrounds. Nobody needs to remind you that the future potential of such a group of children is literally limitless and beyond comprehension.

This scenario isn’t imaginary!

What I’ve just described is an inadequate attempt to visualize what actually took place in the auditorium several nights ago during our Vacation Bible School. It certainly wasn’t confined to the auditorium. Nearly every square foot of this entire complex was creatively transformed and utilized to provide an incredible experience for the hundreds of children who were here. At the end of each night, however, it was a GBE (a “goose bump experience”) to see the huge group of children all gathered in one place – nearly filling the entire lower floor of this large auditorium with their priceless and precious lives.

Thank God for Suzanne and her incredible “army” of volunteers who work tirelessly – not just on VBS but year-round – to plan and provide programs especially for these children, designed to “bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord”!

Thank God for elders who have always recognized the priority God places on children! Thank God for parents in our midst who take their God-given assignment very seriously!

Thank God that on this Father’s Day we have a Heavenly Father who knows and loves each of these precious children, has an amazing plan for each of their lives, and gives us the privilege of working with Him to help make those plans become reality!

It’s an exciting time to be alive and in God’s Family … especially here at Brentwood Hills!
