Jonathan’s Journey

Saturday August 15, 2009

Verse of the day: “If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.”- Romans 14:8

The Quiet of a Saturday morning….

I am usually up before the rest of the family on Saturday.

Bethany started school this week….she had her first full day yesterday. She will enjoy sleeping in this morning…since she has to get up early each weekday. She drove to school a couple of days this week. A new experience for her mother and I!

Benjamin still has a few days before he moves into the “village apartments” and begins his Junior year at Lipscomb. I think he is ready for school to begin. He is also ready to find and purchase a vehicle. He has been looking….at car lots, on the internet---like me he is tired of looking…he just wants to get a vehicle!
Justin---loaded his car and headed to Montgomery yesterday afternoon. He is settling in this weekend…and he begins his final year of law school. Classes begin Monday.

It is going to get hot today…in the low 90’s. But, it is a beautiful morning.
I got an email from Ronald Millon….he had a couple of questions he needed answered…he said, “I know you are busy---you haven’t written a Journey in a few days.”
Wednesday was a full day----Dick Garner, Roberto Santiago and I were in the office early for a meeting about the work at Grandview. After our 9 am prayer time…I headed to M. L. Crawford’s for Martha Lyn to give me a haircut! I didn’t let it get as long this time…and I have really enjoyed my “summer” short cut!

Following an afternoon….of office work…Barbara, Justin and I met at Lipscomb to watch Bethany’s volleyball scrimmage…on to supper and then to mid-week services at BHCC. Mike Samson was busy getting some young people to help him stuff “goodie” bags for University Students. After getting him supplies---I headed to the men’s class---where to night they were discussing Enoch.
Genesis 5:21-24 (New International Version)
21 When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. 22 And after he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. 23 Altogether, Enoch lived 365 years. 24 Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.
Enoch…the father of Methuselah…a man who lived 969 years! However Enoch is known for walking with God…and the fact that God just took him away! Wow! Can you imagine….walking with God for 300 years…and then to be no more…because God just took you away to be with him!
Barbara and I still enjoy taking a few minutes each morning…to pray for our family and read from Sarah Young’s JESUS CALLING book.

Today she writes, “I am the God of all time and that is. Seek Me not only in morning quietness by consistently throughout the day. (What a great statement for this beautiful Saturday Morning) Do not let unexpected problems distract you from My Presence. Instead, talk with Me about everything, and watch confidently to see what I will do.

Adversity need not interrupt your communion with Me. When things go “wrong” you tend to react as if you’re being punished. Instead of this negative response, try to view difficulties as blessings in disguise. Make Me your Refuge by pouring out your heart to Me, trusting in Me at all times.”

Here are some Psalms to read today:
Psalm 55:17 (New International Version)
17 Evening, morning and noon
I cry out in distress,
and he hears my voice.
Psalm 32:6 (New International Version)
6 Therefore let everyone who is godly pray to you
while you may be found;
surely when the mighty waters rise,
they will not reach him.
Psalm 62:8 (New International Version)
8 Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your hearts to him,
for God is our refuge.
Selah

Wednesday night concluded with an elder’s meeting. The night ended a little earlier than some and I was home in time to catch the 2nd Andy Griffith! Beginning September 2nd…the 7th-12th graders will be watching an Andy each week in the Small Auditorium…as we begin a study of “life lessons” from the Andy Griffith Show!

Thursday---Randy Perry and I spent the afternoon visiting with Mac and Mildred Rochelle. Mac is a charter member at Brentwood Hills…and a former elder. We wanted to document on DVD some more of the history of Brentwood Hills. Mac shared some stories on DVD….and he gave me several old documents and directories to put in our “History” files! I am always excited to get information about our Heritage. I really appreciate Randy arranging the meeting…and for Mildred and Mac sharing with us!

Thursday night…our family…continued our tradition of going to the FAIR! The State Fair, The Wilson County Fair…and the Williamson County Fair…have always been hits with our family. Usually every year we make a stop at one of the fairs! Justin really wanted to go this year…before he headed back to Montgomery! Bethany and I headed home after work and volleyball practice to meet the rest of the family…and we headed to the Williamson County Fair. The weather was perfect (we had hoped to go on Tuesday night…but the rain and the threat of storms…delayed our outing) and we had a blast checking out the booths, eating fair food, watching the shows, petting the animals and riding a few Drew Amusement rides!

We ran into several BHCC families at the fair…David , Laura and Colton Karkau; Matthew, Heather, Brooks and Cash McInteer, Jennifer Lassiter and her children and other family members were enjoying some rides and I spotted April Segadi and part of her family---I am sure among the crowd…I missed others who could have been there enjoying the Fair!

We also ran into my niece Katherine Morrow and her family. Lee’s dad was with them---helping with boys! We walked around with them through the Children’s barnyard!! There we saw our State Farm Insurance Agent---Phil Pharr and his family…including 5 grandchildren!

A fun night at the FAIR…a corndog, a roaster ear of corn and a bag of Kettle Corn! BMX stunt riders, Lumberjacks, spinning rides, fireworks and more! A great family evening---a tradition that I hope we continue. I will try to post some pictures in the JOURNEY section of our PHOTO GALLERIES.

A late Thursday night…gave way to an early Friday morning. I followed Bethany to school…to stop and help her fuel her car on the way to school. A busy Friday Morning….several folks stopped by the office…and we had several little projects…that we were trying to finish before the weekend. The offices close at noon on Friday…some days I hang around depending on the projects…but this week I headed home for lunch with Barbara, Benjamin and Justin…as we were loading his car…getting him ready to hit the road! After he got away about 3 pm…I sat down on the couch…and the next thing I knew…I was enjoying a great afternoon nap!

We decided to stay home Friday night…Barbara went on a walk and a visit with our neighbor Brenda Britton….and Benjamin, Bethany and I watched several episodes of LOST…I have several seasons before I will catch-up! It is fun watching the show…and seeing scenes shot from locations that we visited during our trip to Hawaii this year.
It will soon be time to wake up Barbara…she has a baby shower to go to this morning…and there are other Saturday projects to as we enjoy another summer/fall weekend! Next FRIDAY night the “Friday Night Lights” will be shinning…as we begin another season of Mustang Football on the radio!

Have a great Journey this weekend….
